The Goethe-Institut Chicago presented a day-long symposium at The Plant exploring the past, present, and future of meat. It convened speakers whose perspectives are informed by religious ethics, environmental policy, critical animal studies, and the science of creating alternative meat, this event will consider the impacts of the meat industry and suggest alternatives for its future.
The event, called the Future of Meat, included a keynote speaker, panel discussion, and plant-based refreshments from Nature's Fynd and Back of the Yards Algae Sciences. The program continued with a screening of the Killing Floor, the 1984 film about the struggle to establish an interracial labor union in the meatpacking industry in the years leading up to the Chicago race riot of 1919.
